XC Ski Hudson Highlands |
![]() Discover the scenic beauty and peaceful tranquility of the Hudson Highlands on this winter’s day. We will ski through hardwood and hemlock forests, and alongside meadows and lakes on the park’s 15 kilometers of machine groomed ski trails which are perfect for all experience levels. The day will begin by getting everyone outfitted with all our ski gear at the parks full service winter facility. We will then go over all the basic techniques and skills to get you ready to hit the trails. Starting out on level terrain we will cover the ‘glide’ and ‘kick’ motion, stopping, falling (or avoiding it) and getting up, maneuvering, turning, ascending/descending, etc. The basic movements are very natural and can be learned quickly and easily, also it is an excellent activity for providing a full body cardiovascular workout (remember the Nordic Track - Scandinavians swear by it!). The diverse terrain of this park affords plenty of gentle trails for first timers just learning the sport as well as challenging terrain for the more adventurous skier. Your day of guided ski touring will consist of exploring the trails for approximately 5-6 hours as we glide past lakes, streams, old stone walls and granite rock outcroppings all of which provide a visually pleasing and picturesque setting for our day of outdoor adventure. Want to take a break? Stop by the outdoor fireplace to warm yourself up or head into the cozy café for a snack. Food, beverages, restrooms and changing facilities are available for your convenience. Trip includes all ski rental equipment, transportation costs, licensed guide, ski day pass, basic instruction, continental breakfast, and picnic lunch. At the end of the day you’ll bask in the glow of your accomplishments on this true wintry Iditarod-esque adventure. About winter trips – We carefully keep tabs on the weather forecast and prevailing snow conditions for each trip.
